"Most of my paintings feature elements of collage, which has become an integral part of my process. I often think of the natural landscape itself as a collage of plants, fields, rivers and stones that have been covering and revealing each other for millennia. With this monochrome piece, I’ve taken things a step further, in that the entire painting
is composed of collaged elements. This allows me to layer paper and paint, literally watching the composition grow in front of me as I work. There’s a very enjoyable tactility to this process, which I hope comes through in the finished paintings."
