Blue Monday
"A circular current of deep blue ink gathers, disperses and returns around an open centre. Dense pools sit alongside translucent washes and cellular marks, creating a sense of movement held momentarily in balance. Suggestive of tides, cycles and shifting states, the work explores the tension between fluid spontaneity and the quiet structure of repetition."

The gallery is small, but it punches well above its weight. Friendly, expert and hugely knowledgeable about the artists it represents and displays, there is always something of interest, at different price levels.
The Artist
Alice Ashley
Alice Ashley is a British artist and designer whose work explores colour, memory and the feeling of place. She studied Fine Art and History of Art at the University of Leeds, following a Foundation in Art and Design at Camberwell College of Arts, UAL.
Working between abstraction and landscape, Alice uses expressive mark-making, layered colour and movement to create atmospheric, instinctive paintings. Inspired by shifting light, hazy summers and fragments of memory, her work captures the feeling of a moment and the traces it leaves behind.
Alice lives and works in Wimbledon.
