Description

A toast to abundance and warmth. The name Mosquita Muerta found in the wine bottles carries a deeper, culturally rich meaning rooted in South American folklore. The phrase refers to someone who appears innocent and unassuming, yet behind this façade lies a person capable of quietly and cunningly orchestrating plans in the background. Through this symbolic wine bottle, Paula invites us to bring attention to the unseen, to highlight the value in the understated, and to celebrate the artistry that often lies beneath the surface. This recurring motif in her work captures the essence of overlooked beauty and the quiet power of things that might be underestimated or unnoticed—much like the artists that they seek to uplift.

The hand block printed suns that appear throughout this series began as a purely decorative element for my wedding stationery. What started as ornament has become signature, a visual motif that ties together scenes of wine, flowers, and abundance with the same generous light.

Hand block printed background, acrylic, and oil pastel on canvas.

Size: 50cm x 40cm.
