Description
"It would seem I'm attracted to places that are part of a disappearing world. The petrol station at night has become a signature icon for me to paint.

As always light and it's ability to transform overlooked places was the initial interest, the inspiration and you don’t really understand why until you have worked at it for hours and hours."

The gallery is small, but it punches well above its weight. Friendly, expert and hugely knowledgeable about the artists it represents and displays, there is always something of interest, at different price levels.

The Artist

Tim Goffe

"While my subject matter is distinctly contemporary, I choose to work in the traditional medium of paint. In an age of endless scrolling and fleeting attention, painting becomes an act of slowing down. By devoting time to a single image, I seek to uncover qualities that are easily missed in passing. These works invite viewers to pause, look again, and experience the quiet presence of places that might otherwise go unnoticed."

Tim Goffe paints with a discerning, photographer's eye. His observed environment paintings provide a snapshot of inner city locations and architecture normally overlooked and ignored. Urbanite pockets of quiet and desolate industrial settings are beautified, giving life to previously uninviting destinations. Expressive mark-making techniques and a refined balance of precision and exploration consistently characterise Tim’s work.

Goffe studied Fine Art at Brighton, before pursuing Photography at the Polytechnic of Central London. Following this, he worked across many industries including advertising, architecture, film, publishing, and recently, fine art.

Having studied painting in St Ives, Goffe has established an extensive exhibition history and has been included in The Threadneedle Prize, The Discerning Eye, The New English Art Club, The Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize, The Jacksons Prize, The Wells Contemporary, and the RBA Open.

In 2014, he won the Gordon Hudson Memorial Prize for Draughtsmanship, Variety and Exploration.

Goffe has also exhibited in five of the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibitions, with his work selected by Grayson Perry for display in the main room in 2018.

Goffe has cultivated an international following among collectors.

Based in South London, he works full-time from studios housed within a dilapidated industrial site in Wimbledon.
